Watch out for this new princess in Ranthambore National park.. She is the daughter of the Queen of Lakes, Arrowhead. While she is curious to know who the paparazzi following her and her mother all day long, we in the process get lucky with some beautiful candid shots of her.
Pantanal is one of our favourite places in the wild. One can see many Jaguars at the bank of Cuiaba river trying to hunt for prey. On one such hot afternoon we spotted a male Jaguar who was determined to make a kill. He would jump on anything that swam past him. While he desperately tried and failed a couple of times, we got some of the best moments- jumping mid air, swimming, chasing and also running after waves... What a great show it was.
Tried something different with this beautiful Pond Heron we spotted on our recent trip to ranthambore.
We spent 10 freezing days last year winters in a small island called Kaktovik, northern Alaska to scout for Polar bears. And what we saw was extraordinary...cubs swimming in freezing water, playing, sliding and rolling on snow. Mother and cubs interaction, male polar bears trying to hunt... If we don't act now we may not be able to see them anymore. The biggest impact of climate change is being felt these bears and other arctic wildlife. Polar bears main habitat is sea ice which they use to hunt their favourite prey, the seals. Temperatures in the Arctic are rising at least twice as fast and sea ice is reducing 4% per decade. We traveled to Svalbard, near north pole in 2019 and sadly witnessed this phenomenon. Just in the 2 years since our last visit to this place, this year we had to travel up north to find sea ice...
Life in the mara is a story of narrow margins. This attempted hunt by a cheetah gave us one of the biggest adrenaline rushes. The Cheetah was watching the Waterbuck for a long time and before we could realise what really happened, she bolted at lightening speed towards the prey. But as luck would have it, the waterbuck had a narrow escape...
These cute little cheetah cubs remind us of our siblings...Cubs at this age play with each other to practice their hunting skills. They chase, tackle and stalk each other in this fun play fight. The world's fastest animal is losing the race of life with only around 7000 of them left in the wild. Habitat loss, trafficking for cheetah skin and killing by villagers to protect their cattle are the biggest threats.
What stands out in this picture? The beautiful tusks of these African Elephants in Masai Mara. Elephants use the tusks for foraging, digging, as defence against predators etc. The same tusks are also turning out to be life threatening for them. Poaching of elephants to meet the huge international ivory trade demand is the biggest threat along with loss of habitat.
Lion cubs are undoubtedly the cutest and watching them play and act naughty always brightens up our day. All cubs in the pride are related to each other in some way as they are offsprings of one or more dominant males in the pride. Females often nurse each others cubs and also protect them from dangers from other predators.
Hippopotamus are the second largest living land mammal on earth. They are great swimmers and can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes under water. Hippos are semi aquatic and have their eyes, ears and nose are on top of their heads which means it can see and hear when submerged in water.
