While we were scouting for tigers in Ranthambore suddenly our jeep took a steep turn.... and there we were halted by this handsome Leo who was looking at a monkey sitting on the opposite side. It’s always a pleasant surprise to spot a Leopard on the road in Tiger land.
This morning we were very lucky to have an encounter with T-86, an extremely shy male tiger. He wasn't too happy with all the paparazzi around him and we were better off by staying away...
Arrowhead's two daughters get into a play fight. Cubs in their formative years observe and learn a lot from their mother. They usually get into playful fights to enhance their fighting skills to survive as solitary cats once they leave their mother.
Arrowhead's one of the female cubs climbs a tree in front of the iconic mosque. The queen of Ranthambore National Park has two beautiful daughters who are growing up to be as beautiful and courageous as their mother.
We traveled to Ladakh to look for the ghost of the mountains, Snow Leopards. While the days were spent trekking in these beautiful mountains, nights were spent under starry skies in our tents. With temperatures in minus, our motivation was these gorgeous peaks which are home to a variety of species of animals... Mountains are home to a quarter of the world's plants and land animals and over 15% human population.
One has to be very lucky to see a tiger hunt in the wild, let alone on the first day of your visit to the park. This happened to us when we were in Bandhavgarh National Park in 2016 where we spotted this tigress stalking a Sambar deer. Tigers are ambush hunters and gradually sneak up on their prey and when they are 20-30 feet away, they jump on the prey. One powerful bite on the neck and the prey is dead. Sometimes a tiger can wait for hours stalking its prey. We had once witnessed a tigress wait for close to 5 hours before she attacked, albeit unsuccessfully.
A white- throated kingfisher was going for that smooth landing while we were ready for that perfect shot. There are over 90 species of kingfishers and India is home to around 12 species. The plumage of most kingfishers is bright, green and blue being the most common. How do they get this radiant colours? It is not pigmentation but the structure of the feathers is such that they cause scattering of blue light..
Asiatic lions are smaller in size than African Lions. Mane growth is much lesser hence their ears are always visible. Asiatic Lions do not live in prides and have contact with female lions when mating or during a large kill. They live alone or with another male lion. African Lions on the other hand live in pride which consists of a male or group of males which defend their pride vigorously against non pride males.
Little simba looks at us curiously while on a morning walk with his mother. Gir National Park in Gujarat is home to the last surviving Asiatic Lions in the world. These big cats are endangered as only close to 500 remain in the wild and that too in this one park.
