Wildlife in the Arctic- Polar Bears, Puffins, Walrus & Whales

One of the world’s northernmost settlements, Svalbard lies between mainland Norway and North Pole. It is home to the king of ice, Polar Bear and many other animal species. We spent the month of June on a small boat in the Arctic looking for this gorgeous wildlife. The sun never set as this month has 24 hours of daylight. While we were under slept most of the days, it was totally worth it. Here is a snippet of wildlife in the Arctic.

Laze like a Walrus

Learn from a walrus how to laze around so perfectly. We were wide awake at 3 am (midnight sun) in Svalbard filming the walruses on the beach when we saw this one cover a long journey...Rolling & rolling, it seemed like the most arduous journey as the walrus covered a distance of just 2 feet between the land and water in over 10 minutes.

The Last Remaining Sumatran Orangutans

A baby Orangutan is snatched from his mother to be kept as a pet while the demand for palm oil is destroying their habitat. As things stand today, there are only 13000 Sumatran Orangutans and an alarming 750 of Tapanuli Sumatran Orangutans left in the wild. Team GT met with Ian Singleton, Conservation Director, Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program, Indonesia who has been working towards protecting Orangutans for over a decade.
